We want to make sure that all of our Park Canyon residents are aware that January is National Glaucoma Awareness Month. Over 3 million Americans, and over 60 million people worldwide, have Glaucoma.

It is often called “the sneak thief of sight” since there are no symptoms and once vision is lost, it’s permanent. The risk of having Glaucoma is higher for individuals with a positive family history of Glaucoma but anyone can develop Glaucoma, at any age.

Individuals over the age of 60 have an increased risk for Glaucoma. Overall health and ethnic background also play a part in determining risk.

Glaucoma is not curable but early diagnosis and treatment can prevent vision loss. Please visit this website  to learn more about Glaucoma. Regular eye exams are especially important for those at higher risk for glaucoma, and may help to prevent unnecessary vision loss.
