Daylight Saving Time ends on November 1 this year, so get ready to set your clocks back here at Park Canyon Apartments. Have you ever wondered why we switch the clocks at this time of year? Just what is the idea behind Daylight Savings?ID-10098350

The concept of daylight saving was originally suggested by Benjamin Franklin as a way to avoid “burning the midnight oil.” He noticed that the sun didn’t always stay within natural waking hours throughout the year, and that by adjusting the clocks in the spring and fall, you could maximize productive daylight hours and save precious candles during the long, dark winter months.

The United States officially adopted the practice during WWI to channel the resources that went into artificial light for the war effort. It was optional for states to observe it until today, except during WWII when it was mandatory. Today most states observe Daylight Saving, except for Arizona and Hawaii and some territories like Puerto Rico and Guam.

What do you think? Does Daylight Saving help or hurt productivity and energy savings? Share your thoughts with the Park Canyon’s community on Facebook!
